The Visual Arts AIR program at Byrdcliffe welcomes artists working in painting, sculpture, drawing, works on paper, book arts, ceramics, craft, design, weaving (looms on site), mixed media, installation, film/video, animation, architecture, photography (minimal non-digital darkroom on site), collage, performance, and others. Please email us if you have questions regarding your specific practice's eligibility. We do not currently have printmaking facilities/equipment or a woodshop but welcome these disciplines.
Individual artists participating in Byrdcliffe's Artist-in-Residence program are asked to pay a subsidized fee of $700 for the residency which covers private studio access and a private bedroom in a shared building within a 250-acre mountain campus. You may select your accommodation preferences on the application. Byrdcliffe offers financial aid opportunities to participants based on a combination of need and merit. To be considered for a fellowship, simply check the appropriate boxes and submit the required financial information listed in the Fellowship section of the application, including the first two pages of your tax return. Applicants will only be asked for financial information in order to qualify for funding.
In addition to basic information and preferences, you will be asked to supply the following materials during your AIR application:
- 10 images/files (max) of your work
- 3 short statements (under 200 words/one paragraph each): Bio Statement, Goals, and Approach to Communal Living
